Prez Mez May 2008 - Dee Beetem

What’s new?

First on the list is the Summer Party. We discussed this at the last meeting and people had varying suggestions. Margaret, Erika and I have checked out all of the locations that were presented to us and the best one seems to be Christa Adair Park. The others would require us to hire a police officer, which sounds too costly for a small summer party. Erika has sent in a reservation request for the afternoon of July 26. Once we have a confirmation we can discuss plans and find out who’s willing to do what.

Summer excursions:

This year there was only one Summer Chills play: Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest (Friday, July 11 - Sunday, August 3) Shall we make this a Several theater party? What dates would people prefer?

Also, the Museum of Fine Arts has a Pompeii exhibit through June 22, 2008that sounds interesting. Would anyone else like to go?

Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendar: This month Steve Dial is hosting the Several video party on the FIFTH Friday instead of the FOURTH. Steve suggested this change in date because many of us will be out of town at MediaWest. Thanks, Steve!

Fannish Summer Party - Erika Frensley

I’ve submitted a reservation request for July 26 from noon – 4pm for the clubhouse at Christa Adair park ( 15107 Cullen Boulevard). I requested the clubhouse (in the community building), but if necessary the pavilions looked very good (lots of shade, sit down places, and not too far from bathrooms.

A new remake of the classic British SF TV series Blake's 7 could soon return to U.K. television screens, Sky One revealed to the BBC; the satellite channel has given the green light to the development of two 60-minute scripts for a "potential event series" based on the show, about a gang of rebels fighting an evil federation that rules the galaxy.

Engineer’s Guide to Cats

Two engineers describe the care and feeding of cats, as only engineers can. I really like the discussion of body length and width ratio and aerodynamics of leaping cats.
