Prez Mez May 2009 - Dee Beetem
This month we’ve scheduled an atypical pair of meetings.
The main monthly meeting on May 8 will be at the Black Labrador Pub (4100 Montrose Blvd). It will otherwise be a normal meeting, but this is the location at which we expect to hold our Summer Party and it will give us a good chance to check it out first. Contact our Veep Margaret if you have questions. Also, since many of us will be attending MediaWest, we' will have our Video Party on the fifth Friday, May 29th, at Steve’s house.
It’s time to plan some summer excursions. I’m sure we all want to see the new Trek! Maybe a group viewing after the hordes die down? The Alley Theater is presenting a play in June that seems to fit our club rationale: The Farnsworth Invention – a play about the invention of television!
June 26-28 is ApolloCon—who’s going to be attending? At the very least we need to put out flyers –and if anyone’s planning to rent a room, maybe a party.
Message from the Veep - Margaret McNickle
The next meeting will be at The Black Labrador on Montrose between West Alabama and Richmond. I'll get a table in a quiet place-as quiet as Friday night gets-and they can put more tables together. I think it will be a good place for the Summer Party, too. We can get the big meeting room in the back, our own server, and validated parking for the garage behind the building. The parking in front will go fast, and it's easy to miss the narrow driveway. Don't panic. Just turn right past the library and go to the parking garage.

Starbase Houston Cookoff and Auction Results
By Erika Frensley
Erika, Ye Editor and Dee, Ye President, attended the Starbase Houston Chili and Dessert Cookoff and Auction on April 26. We contributed two boxes of memorabilia (models, ornaments, games, notebooks, etc) to Starbase Houston for their auction; the items were in demand!I entered the dessert cookoff with her candy (retitled Tribble Droppingss), and won First Place in the Desserts (there were 5 or 6 entries, so it wasn't a shoo-in to win). Personally, I think it was partially because of the explanatory text that I provided:
Tribble Droppingss
After Captain Koloth’s ship was infested with tribbles, the Federation pestilence swept thru the Klingon space station. The vermin ate every bit of grain on every space station they infested. Since the next supply ships were delayed until the space stations could be sterilized of the vermin (and the tribbles were irradicable), the brave civilians were on the verge of starvation.
An unnamed Klingon cook on one of these space stations, in desperation, decided to use the vermin for sustenance. He found that the tribbles absorbed and excreted the flavors of whatever they had eaten. This particular space station had ample supplies of Klingon sweets, fruits, and alcohol before the infestation...
Tribble Drops, a new delicacy was born! Although only the lowliest chefs were willing to make it because of its repulsive ingredients, Tribble Drops swept thru the lower classes and into the general populace. It is said that Captain Koloth is especially fond of Tribble Drops… Although no one is yet brave enough to tell him of the special ingredients.
